This series of courses is designed to give a comprehensive introduction to horticulture across the gardening year

Part 1
Location: online
Date: Saturday 16/01/21
Time: 10am-1pm

This session gives an introduction to the plant kingdom, and will develop your knowledge of how plants are grouped to better understand them. We will also provide an overview of plant names, and look at plant morphology, so that learners can start to better identify plants, and see how this helps us create great gardens.

Please note Part 1 is an online course using ZOOM. No specialist software is required to participate, but a device with a microphone and webcam will be needed.
This is a live interactive course, and will not be made available as a recording to watch at a later date.

Part 2
Location: Botanic Garden
Date: Sunday 17/01/21
Time: 10am-2pm

The second part is a practical session taking place in the Garden and will provide you with the skills to start identifying common garden plants. In this session you will practice looking at and describing plants. You will use a variety of plant keys to aid identification. The aim is for participants to gain the skill of looking at plants in a way that aids identification and to become accustomed to botanical terminology. This session will focus on identifying plants commonly found in a winter interest garden.

The practical Sunday sessions will take place entirely outdoors so participants will need to come dressed for all weathers.
