Wanderings With Our Cameras
An Exhibition by Cambridge Community Arts Photographers
Since September 2020 this group, despite the restrictions of lockdowns, have become confident with using their cameras, experimenting with light, composition and framing; learning and taking inspiration from photographers past and present. Each has developed their own unique interests, approach and style and they are proud to share a few of their favourite images here.
Cambridge Community Arts helps to build community, connections and confidence through creativity. Offering arts based courses in the community in a safe and friendly environment. To date over 1200 course places have been offered and participants benefit from increased confidence and improved mental health.
Courses are run in community centres led by professional artists and musicians, who inspire their learners with their passion and empower them to uncover their own inner artists.
A Day at the Seaside
S A Wilson
These are the images that I took to try and capture the essence of the Norfolk and Suffolk coastline.
I think they all do that, except the arrow framing the cross which I have included as I felt that it was a great image.
My favourite image of these submitted for this exhibition is the one of the posts on the beach taken at Old Hunstanton.
Same but Different - My Camera is My Paintbrush
P Kane
During this course with CCA I have learnt how to use different settings on my camera in order to achieve different results.
I have really enjoyed experimenting with light and intentional camera movement, producing abstract photographs which has given me so much creative freedom.
My favourite image is the abandoned shopping trolley, which for me sums up how 'surreal' life during the pandemic has been.
My Favourite Flowers
Mairin Lennon
I decided to concentrate on taking images of flowers for my photography, as I like flowers.
The passion flower image is my favourite. I have got into the habit of taking my camera with me whenever I go out to try not to miss any good opportunities. I like that you get different flowers all year round.
Mirrors and Reflections
Siobhan
Hello, my name is Siobhan and I started the CCA Photography course in September 2020. My aim was to learn about taking better photos.
I have learnt about the technical aspect of photography and feel that my images have improved over time.
I decided to concentrate on images of 'mirrors and reflections' for my project and have travelled around with a range of mirrors for my images.
My favourite image is of the tree and headstone as I feel that the lighting is great. This was taken in Mill Road Cemetery.
Colours of Hope
Elaine R.
For my project, my original idea was to create images using different sources of light.
After seeing rainbows in lots of images I decided to use my extension tube and concentrate on the colours of the rainbow.
Rainbows are the ultimate sign of hope, and after the year we've all had, it brings comfort.
The Daily Dog Walk
Kylie Holmes
These photographs were taken whilst on a dog walk where I live. I took them at the height of my dogs so you would get it from their perspective.

The Museum of Classical Archaeology
The Museum of Classical Archaeology is home to a Cast Gallery filled with plaster casts of Greek and Roman sculpture.
For four years now, we have been partnering with Cambridge Community Arts to host an exhibition of work by the learners on their accredited Photography course. This year and last, we sadly have not been able to welcome the learners into our Gallery as normal - but it's important to us that we celebrate their achievements all the same with this online exhibition.
