About the Session

Explore how technology has changed through time and learn more about key inventions such as microscopes, telescopes, globes and calculators. The Museum has many other intriguing inventions such as pre-film animation devices, papier-mâché human anatomical models and glass fungi. What will your students discover?

This session involves object handling and can be adapted to fit other science or history topics in school - please let us know what else you are doing so that we can see what links we can make. You can find an example timetable for this session at the museum here and our group leader notes for taught sessions here

The tour of the museum and the object handling session will always be led by a member of museum staff. We will try our best to have a volunteer to help with the museum trail, but if nobody is available then this part of the visit will be school-led - here is the trail if you would like to have a look at it in advance! We will also provide an answer sheet on the day.

Duration: Can be booked as:

A 90-minute session in the museum - please note that our maximum group size is 45 due to the small size of the museum

or

A 30-to 60-minute outreach session (online or in person) with ideas for activities to complete in class

Available: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (museum sessions 10-11.30 or 1-2.30, outreach negotiable), subject to availability
