The workshop will cover topics such as preparing the salvage operation, setting up a triage point, moving damaged items and first-aid for a wide range of materials. The course will also discuss risks of re-entry into damaged collection areas and health and safety aspects of salvage operations.

At the end of this course, participants will:

  • Be able to set up a salvage operation
  • Be able to undertake basic ‘first aid’ to collections damaged by water and fire
  • Understand the risks associated with emergency salvage operations in heritage institutions

This practical course is suitable for anyone who might be involved in salvaging museum, library and archive collections in an emergency, including non-specialists.
