Collection Highlights
- The skeleton of a Roman woman, who inspired Sylvia Plath’s poem, ‘All the Dead Dears’.
- A 14 m tall totem pole from the Queen Charlotte Islands in Canada.
- Samurai armour from Japan complete with a moustache made of boar’s bristles.
- The Trumpington Cross: an early Christian brooch found in the Anglo-Saxon burial of a teenage girl only 3 miles from the museum.
- Freeze-dried potatoes from Peru that are at least 500 years old.

Visiting with a buggy
There is limited space for buggy parking at the museum. You may take your buggy around the museum with you.
Visiting with an Autistic child
The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) actively encourages all visitors to the Museum, including people on the autistic spectrum. We have prepared the following information to help you plan for your visit. We hope that it will help to make your time with us enjoyable and we look forward to seeing you.
We have prepared a Visual Story which is available for you to download or print off to create a Social Story for your child. This is a visual guide which will help your child to know what to expect and ease the anxiety which often accompanies a visit to somewhere new and unfamiliar. Physical Access
The main entrance on Downing Street is fully accessible to Disabled visitors, and there is a lift to all three floors.
The Museum’s flooring is level. Although there is a small raised section, up two steps, everything can be seen from ground level.
Visibility impairments
The Museum is very well lit. Large print labels are available.
Hearing impairments
Induction loops:
An induction loop is available at the Museum’s front desk.
Acoustics:
The Museum is a large space with hard surfaces, though generally quiet.
Assistance dogs
are very welcome.

Onsite parking can be arranged. Please contact the Museum in advance of your visit.
Changing Places Toilet
