Join us in our Clore Learning Studio for free, practical art making workshops. Respond to the displays and exhibitions to make your own artworks. Get creative with artists and our learning volunteers, no previous art experience needed!

Activities are for all but most suitable for children between 3 and 11 years. We like to encourage parents/carers to create alongside their child.

If Studio Sunday is busy, you can still get creative by picking up some of our free art activities from the desk.

Join us at the 'Let's Go Circular' shop on the first floor of the Grand Arcade for an afternoon of creative recycling activities, including making your own notebook and card. Plus choose your own free bookmark by adding your thoughts on how to help wildlife and the environment to our pledge station. We will also have items from the Museum for you to handle and explore!  Lots going on, we hope to see you there!

Explore how we respond to change in our environment through the arts with this drop-in family event taking place in the Museum of Zoology and the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Be inspired by the ceramics of Peru on display in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, then create your own artworks with ceramics artist Louise Beale in the Museum of Zoology. With trails, object handling and more, there’s lots to discover.

This half term event is joint with the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, where there will be performances, stories and activities from 3pm

Discover an incredible world of sounds beneath our feet – conversations between whales in the oceans, the low throb of ship engines, bursts of vibrations excited by earthquakes. We normally cannot hear these vibrations as sounds, but working with scientists, sound artist David Stalling has made it possible.

Once you've heard the sounds of the earth in our 'Earth's Traces' installation, explore how sounds are made with our fun, hands-on activities. Jump to make your own earthquake, make giant waves with slinkies, and more.

Inspired by Material Power: Palestinian Embroidery, we will create artwork exploring symbols of identity and strength. We’ll also recognise personal losses and challenges — from climate change to relationships or moving schools. Using textiles, natural inks, selfies and creative processes, we’ll develop ways to express our feelings, resilience and power.

Please bring a packed lunch with you.

Felt making is an ancient process for making textiles that involves a lot of soap bubbles, super-soft wool fibres and a bit of a physical workout! Inspired by Material Power: Palestinian Embroidery, we’ll be making a felt artwork about something precious that we’d like to protect. Felt making is a lot of fun and you won’t even have to thread a needle! For ages 7–11.

This half term, the museum’s been taken over by mythical monsters and scary beasts! Drop in with the family to discover the scary stories and heroic adventures behind the meanest monsters from Ancient Greece. Get ready for the spooky season and become a mythical creature yourself as we make monstrous masks for you to take home and unleash on your friends at Halloween!
