Explore the museum when it is closed to the public! Ely Museum is having a special summer opening just for children with sensory sensitivities along with their families.

All of the exhibits and activities will be available as usual, however the sounds are reduced, muted or subtitled throughout the building. There is also a quiet room with chairs, a sensory tent to relax in and some sensory toys.

Drop-in anytime between 10.30am to 1pm.

You will have the opportunity to explore the unique screen printing techniques of award winning glass artist, James Cockerill. James specialises in combining traditional methods with modern innovations to create striking graphics works of glass.

After collecting ideas from the exhibition you will then go to the studio and create your own beautiful string and paper press print to take home to frame or make into a card!

You will be making your own family shield after looking at the heraldry collection at the Museum.

You could also make a paper fire breathing dragon! This event is suitable for all ages and one adult is free with each child.

A suggested donation of £1 per child for materials would be gratefully received.

Learn the principles and theory of glass cutting, fusing and firing stained glass with an experienced tutor. You will then work on your own design and make a 10cm x10cm glass piece to take home and keep.

Your glass will need to be kiln-fired after the workshop is finished. This process takes 24 hours and will usually takes place on the following day because someone needs to be on the premises during firing. Once your fused artwork has been kiln-fired and cooled, we will contact you to let you know it is ready for collection.

You will be making a beautiful acetate animal bookmark.
