In collaboration with the National Science and Media Museum and the Scott Polar Research Institute, the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust is hosting a webinar exploring the evolution of photography and cinematography in one of the most remote and visually striking places on Earth.
From the pioneering work of Herbert Ponting — whose photographic negatives are in the SPRI collections and whose cine camera now resides in the National Science and Media Museum — to the modern-day documentation of polar science and climate change. This session will delve into how photography has shaped our understanding of the icy continent, with SPRI Archivist Naomi Boneham and Head Curator at NSMM Dr Charlotte Connelly in conversation with Head of Buildings and Conservation at UKAHT, Ruth Mullett.
You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at Ponting's iconic visual legacy from the Terra Nova expedition, insights from the curators and photographs that reveal the triumphs and challenges of capturing Antarctica on film.
The webinar will be streamed live on YouTube - register on Eventbrite to receive a link before the event.
If you can't view live, the webinar will be permanently available on the UKAHT YouTube channel.
