Do you know how colourful the ancient world was?

In this activity, ideal for children and families, the Education Coordinator at the Museum of Classical Archaeology will show you how to draw a simplified Ancient Greek Temple and decorate it.

All you need to do is follow the step-by-step instructions in our fun instructional video. This activity is designed as a fun exercise for children, which also teaches them about temples and their architectural elements.

Ancient Greek temples were not the white and yellow marble monuments we see today, 2000 years ago they were painted in vibrant greens, reds, blues and other colours. We will show you how to draw a temple based on the temple of Zeus at Olympia. We will then decorate it with scraps of paper found around the home to give it colour and texture.

See the instructions below or via our interactive online board where you can share your designs with us. We're looking forward to seeing your creations!

This event is part of Cambridge Festival 2021 which takes place from 26 March to 4 April, with a series of free online events and activities for everyone. Find out more here.
