Join us for a one-day workshop all about flowers. Jim Ede, founder of Kettle’s Yard, spoke of the ‘all embracing delight … experienced in nature, in stones, in flowers, in people.’

Reflecting Jim’s love of plants and flowers, we will be looking at the ways in which he and his wife Helen used flowers amongst the art and natural objects in the House at Kettle’s Yard.  Taking inspiration from the variety, styling and scale of flower arrangements in the House and looking at the planting in the cottage garden Anna Taylor will teach how to decorate your own home with seasonal flowers.

Explore how flowers can enhance interiors and draw together and complement the furniture, colours, mood and design of a space.  Starting with a private tour of the House see how flower paintings of Winifred Nicholson and Christopher Wood are used alongside real arrangements.

Using a variety of approaches with vases, ceramics and flower material Anna Taylor, from Anna’s Flower Farm, will demonstrate styling and arrangements from jam jars, which Jim often used, to larger vases. Guidance from Anna and one-on-one teaching time will enable participants to create personal pieces. Participants are invited to bring photos of their own house and vessels to use, discuss and explore. Please also bring something to carry your own vessels and pieces home.
