About Susan Tomes
SUSAN TOMES, PIANO
Susan Tomes is a pianist and writer whose performances, recordings and books have received numerous awards. A founding member of Domus, she toured in the 1980s with the ensemble’s portable concert hall, helping bring chamber music to wider audiences.
As pianist of the Florestan Trio, she performed internationally for seventeen years and won a Royal Philharmonic Society award. She has also been the pianist of the Gaudier Ensemble for more than thirty years.
Her discography spans more than fifty CDs, including several Gramophone Award winners. In 2013, she received the Cobbett Medal in recognition of her contribution to chamber music.
Alongside her performing career, Tomes has written eight books exploring music and the experience of performance, twice winning Presto Music’s Book of the Year award. Her latest book, Nocturnes and the Fascination of Night Music, was published in 2026. An album of music by women featured in her book Women and the Piano (2024) is due on Hyperion Records this autumn.
The concert starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £25, or £5 for students and Open House Community cardholders. Advance booking is required.
