This series of courses is designed to give a comprehensive introduction to horticulture across the gardening year

This session gives an introduction to the plant kingdom, and will develop your knowledge of how plants are grouped to better understand them. We will also provide an overview of plant names, and look at plant morphology, so that learners can start to better identify plants, and see how this helps us create great gardens.

Sessions can be attended singly or as the complete series and no previous experience is needed. We will cover the principles of essential horticultural topics, as well as the science that underpins these principles, with learning consolidated through online quizzes and group discussions.

Sandie Cain joined the Garden team in 2018 as Horticultural Learning Co-ordinator with responsibility for the Schools Garden and horticultural learning.  She studied horticulture at Plumpton College and Bicton College, and was previously head gardener of a Victorian walled garden producing vegetables, fruit, micro herbs and edible flowers for a Michelin Star restaurant.  Sandie is passionate about horticulture with a special interest in kitchen gardens.

Please note this is an online course using ZOOM. No specialist software is required to participate, but a device with a microphone and webcam will be needed.

This is a live interactive course, and will not be made available as a recording to watch at a later date.
