For further information about access at the Museum, please visit the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

At the Disability Friendly Opening, the museum will be open exclusively for families with children with sensory sensitivities. This event is aimed at children with special educational needs who usually find visiting museums overwhelming due to conditions that affect their sensory processing and/or have a developmental disability.

We will be ensuring a quieter environment at the Museum so that you and your family can explore 4.5 billion years of history. There are very limited spaces to keep the museums from feeling too overwhelming. We will turn off any sounds and will control the lighting as best we can. We provide a chill out space with sensory lighting if your child needs a break. They can choose to take part in our sensory story and/or work with an artist.

For this Disability Friendly Opening, we will be working with artist Maraid Mcewan on a museum themed craft activity.

The events are free to attend but booking is required. Please book places for any family members that will be attending too.

Prior to the event you’ll be sent out a visual story.

If you have any questions about the session, please email Marie Kennedy, Learning Associate: Young People at the University of Cambridge Museums by email: mfk25@cam.ac.uk

We look forward to welcoming you to the museum.
