Event information
Lesley Burr is one of the eight artists featured in the Polar Museum's Painting the Poles temporary exhibition. In 2019 she was appointed the Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute Artist in Residence and went on a journey to the Arctic.
The painting session will begin with a short introduction, showing sketchbooks from Lesley's residency. She will demonstrate basic watercolour techniques, including use of colour palettes, brushes, use of masking fluid or masking tape, texture, and graphite pencil. The workshop is informal and supportive, offering individual guidance on subject choice and technique. Participants will explore Arctic themes at their own pace through sketchbook work.
Supplies are provided and the event is suitable for beginners.
The session covers: 1) Selecting and simplifying landscapes with attention to composition and colour, 2) Using photographs as reference, both literally and interpretively, and 3) Choosing an Arctic object or theme from the Polar Museum's current collection.
Space is limited, please reserve a ticket using the link above.
