Alpines are sometimes thought of as fussy plants that are difficult to grow well, but the truth is these ‘brave’ plants cope brilliantly with extreme conditions; you just need to understand the growing conditions they are used to.  Join Simon Wallis, senior horticulturist here at the Garden, for a myth busting introduction to growing alpine plants. With Simon as your guide there will also be the chance to see the beautiful and diverse collection of alpine plants we cultivate and care for here at the Garden. This informative day will give you the confidence to successfully grow beautiful alpine plants at home.

Simon Wallis joined the Botanic Garden horticultural staff in 2005 when he was a Horticultural Trainee. He then worked on the Systematic Beds for six years; and in 2012 joined the Alpine and Woodland team – his dream job – working alongside the respected alpine collection. Mountain flora has always fascinated Simon with their huge range of form and appearance, and their large range of adaptations; growing in some of the most inhospitable places on earth. He has a particular interest in the genus Saxifraga, and is a member of the RHS Joint Rock Garden Plant Committee.

Bookings for this course will close on Wednesday 5 April
