How can young people’s voices be heard? How can this be nurtured to support motivated young people? How can pupil voice be implemented in schools? How can young people’s views support the development of a positive creative and cultural learning environment where young people take responsibility and leadership in their learning? How can schools, colleges and universities provide an education environment that means that young people are authentically engaged in their learning?

This event is for art and creative specialists in education institutions who wish to enhance their skills and strategic thinking for creatively supporting young people’s needs. We will discuss how education institutions and cultural organisations listen to the needs of young people and think about how to enable them to express their views.
The final part of the afternoon will be an opportunity you to find out more about Artsmark, a national accreditation for schools with a broad and high-quality arts and cultural provision. For those already on this journey, this afternoon will also shape into a support session for those wishing to gain support on how to develop the pupil voice element of your statement of commitment or case study.
About Clara Dublanc
Clara Dublanc is a cultural producer specialising in projects that relate to migrants rights and cross cultural dialogue. She is the founder of ‘Itinerant Works’, a production outfit developing projects at the intersection between activism and the cultural sector. Clara has a double degree in Literature from the Universities of Bologna and Haute-Alsace, and a Masters in International Relations between Europe and Latin America, also from the University of Bologna.
About Frequencies
Frequencies is a long-term project devised by Colombian-born artist Oscar Murillo, as a collaboration with students aged ten to sixteen from schools across the globe. The project consists of temporarily affixing canvases to classroom desks; the students are not given any materials or instruction as to what they can and cannot do, thus allowing the canvas to register their daily endeavours and conscious and unconscious interventions. In this age group, Murillo perceives a certain amount of resistance to normative systems of thought, which he sees as a greater link to his own work and practice. By placing canvas on desks and leaving it for a prolonged period of time, the process of sedimentation that occurs not only captures the students’ thoughts and expressions, but also chance interventions that are the product of external factors.
