For centuries, the Iñupiat of northern Alaska have lived creatively with their Arctic landscapes and fellow Arctic inhabitants: responding to challenges, welcoming newcomers while throughout all remaining true to their traditions and values.
A new exhibition at The Polar Museum explores the village of Point Hope, and some of its neighbouring communities on Alaska’s North Slope. Beginning with an origin story, the exhibition invites visitors to think about nineteenth century trade and exploration, the arrival of missionaries, changing home technologies, and finally look at life today in the most northerly reaches of the USA.
Drop in for free, Tuesday - Saturday, 10am-4pm
